Why Use a Sports Mouth Guard?

Sports mouth guards act as a shock absorber to protect your teeth from excessive forces. Mouth guards also protect your head and brain from a concussion if the blow is to the lower jaw. Mouth guards are an important piece of athletic equipment for anyone participating in a sport that involves falls, body contact or flying equipment. This includes but not limited to: football, basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, skateboarding, gymnastics, mountain biking — any activity that might result in an injury to the mouth.

A well designed mouth guard also protects the jaw joints (TMJ) from injury by supporting and cushioning the jaw joints in times of blunt forces to the lower jaw.

Well made mouth guards adapt smoothly to the upper teeth and gums, staying firmly in place, even when speaking, breathing heavily or playing sports very actively. A custom mouth guard requires 2 appointments. During the first appointment and we take an impressions of your teeth. During the second appointment, we check the fitting.
